In the article “It’s Filipino, not Tagalog or Pilipino” by Neni Sta. Romana Cruz, the author discusses about what our national language actually is. Many of her explanations on what the language is, is probably not known to many Filipinos. One example of this is “(t)he confusion (that) lingers because Filipino is mistakenly thought to be Tagalog concealed under a new name (Cruz).”

When I first read the article and its contents, I had never heard any of these stories and rational behind the Filipino language. This goes to show how the average Filipino does not truly know the beauty of their own language. This is the reason why FilipiYES was created, it was created to make Filipinos aware of how beautiful and creative our language is. The lack of knowledge of Filipino’s about their country might lead to them disliking their own country and preferring the cultures of other countries. This is why FilipiYES is very important. We want every single Filipino to know about this, and with the hope they may spread this with other Filipinos and maybe even share it to people with different nationalities. Spreading this language is very important and may even lead to the spreading of our very beautiful and rich cultures. In doing this, it will benefit the people by encouraging them to love their own, this may also lead to the patronization of our own. It may lead to the patronization of our own products, or may lead to people deciding to travel our country to search and discover our multiple cultures. In discovering our multiple cultures we can all utilize social media and spread the greatness of the Philippines, the country, Filipino, as a language, and Filipino as a person. Surely anybody who witnesses our culture will surely be encouraged to come and visit. To visit, and to live out experiences here in the Philippines. The hope of this is to keep our country’s cultures and languages alive. http://opinion.inquirer.net/106636/filipino-not-tagalog-pilipino
